K.V. Zakir Hussain, Chairman and Managing Director of Mermer Italia, comes from an illustrious family of business innovators and made his mark by setting up the first full-fledged tile unit in Malabar, Kerala. Sensing immense opportunities for growth, he single-handedly used his expertise to build the Mermer Italia brand to what it is today.

As someone who believes in leading from the front, Mr. Hussain was able to use the goodwill created by the Swadeshi Group to oversee tremendous growth in Mermer Italia and expand its market share. Well-known among the business community in Kerala and beyond, his entrepreneurial acumen was acknowledged as Mermer Italia became the first importer of genuine Italian Marble in the State. He is a strong advocate of healthy competition in the industry and is looked up to as a mentor for upcoming entrepreneurs.

When the Swadeshi Group of Companies was established in 1948, our founder, Mr. K. V. Avarankutty Haji laid down the foundation for many milestones to come. The Group was a pioneer of the first full-fledged tile unit in Malabar, and went on to establish the first granite factory in 1970. In the 1980s, the entity became the first direct importer of Italian Marble in Kerala. An exclusive catalogue of premium quality natural stones has been the core business ever since.

Eventually, two new companies were formed under the group. Mermer Italia Building Products (P) Ltd specializes in the import of Italian marbles and retails the product in the state of Kerala. Mermer Building Consultants (P) Ltd provides value-added consultancy services to a wide range of customers in the area of building solutions.

Currently, Mermer Italia is the only company in Kerala that imports marble blocks directly from Italy and processes them in its own factories. Mermer Italia has its own state-of-the-art factories in Krishnagiri, Madurai, Hunsur, Bangalore, Jalore, Talvadi, and Kozhikode.

Mermer Italia boasts of South India’s biggest Italian marble showroom. The Group has five state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities at Calicut, Hunsur, Bangalore, Jalore, and Talvadi.
